Blossoming on Stage

Originally envisioned as a follow-up to my piece Families You Choose, this article quickly became a standalone feature — because Evan’s story deserved the spotlight.

In Blossoming on Stage, I explore Evan’s journey navigating internalized homophobia, identity, and self-expression through drag. They opened up about struggling to fit in with other young men, embracing their sexuality in high school, and finding community as Vice President of Spectrum. Their drag persona, Holly Berry Blossom, is vibrant, bold, and empowering — a true icon for others exploring their own identities.

Writing this piece was both eye-opening and humbling. I’m grateful Evan trusted me to share their story, and I’m proud to help give voice to experiences that are too often left unheard.
