This article explores how digital navigation has revolutionized the way we travel—and what happens when the technology lets us down. Tracing the history of maps alongside modern GPS use, I dive into how these tools have reshaped our brains and behaviors around navigation.

The story follows Maegan Ackerson, a senior at Ball State University, who drives 14 hours from Texas to Muncie for school. Maegan relies heavily on GPS for part of her journey, highlighting how many of us have grown dependent on digital directions. I also share my own experience with navigation struggles—and the panic that sets in when GPS service fails.

There’s a Map For That! was both eye-opening and reassuring, reminding me—and readers—that while technology guides us, it’s important to understand the map beneath the screen.
